London Titans is the largest and most successful southern club in England. It is nearly 30 years old and has produced over 50 GB players and over 250 players in its time. The club plays in the National League, European Cup and has been home for several GB Paralympians, Titans is supported by former GB coaches and players such as Ann Wild OBE, Ade Adepitan MBE and Ian Laker former GB men's player and GB Women's Head coach.
They run six teams at three venues across the capital, and feature a number of the wheelchair basketball’s leading names, including Tyler Saunders, Matt Seally, Louise Sugden, Fi Tillman, Jim Palmer, Christy Gregan, Harry Blyth, Manny Filson, Megan Wood and many more.
Chairman Jaspal Dhani said: “The 2012 Paralympics encouraged a lot more people to try wheelchair basketball, but you can’t play in a wheelchair that’s designed for everyday use. The support we’re getting from Path to Success will allow us to provide special wheelchairs to new players. We also have a lot of players on disability benefit, who can’t afford their own chairs, and this will mean they are not excluded from the sport”.
The club does not receive steady or substantial amount of funding from the government or any other means. But with volunteer support, hard work, relentless training and Path to Success’s financial support, they can continue to challenge on the national and international stage. Path to Success is supporting the club by fundraising through “Wheelchair Basketball Challenge” – A corporate Team Building event which takes place at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
The charity is supporting Titans by providing the financial support for purchase of basketball wheelchairs, coach, court and referee fees, travel and accommodation costs to strengthening the players’ skills, technique and equipment ahead of their upcoming games in UK and International events.
